Thomas Patek strives for harmony and balance – both in the vineyard and in the cellar. His wines are authentic ambassadors of their terroir, full of character and expressiveness. With great passion and meticulous handwork, he brings out the best from the Franconian soils, setting new standards in the region.
Thomas's journey into wine began in 2014 when he left his job as a development engineer to gain initial experience at various wineries. During his apprenticeship at the Horst Sauer winery, he cultivated and vinified two small vineyards provided by the winery, together with his mentor and friend Moritz Bachner. He released these wines under the Patek & Bachner Winzerhandwerk label. After working with Simone Adams in Rheinhessen, where he deepened his knowledge of Burgundy varieties, Thomas returned to his Franconian roots in 2022. There, he began working at 2Naturkinder in Kitzingen, whose organic farming practices and natural wine philosophy profoundly influenced him.
Today, Thomas Patek cultivates four small vineyards in Kitzingen and Sulzfeld am Main. The wines are produced in a dedicated cellar at 2Naturkinder, where he works with tanks, barrels, and amphorae to precisely express the unique characteristics of the soils and grape varieties.
His philosophy is characterized by a holistic, sustainable approach that focuses equally on the soil, the vines, and the environment. Thomas relies on organic farming, diverse cover crops, and manual labor to give the vineyards vitality and balance. In the cellar, he allows the wines the time they need and intervenes only minimally. Spontaneous fermentation and extended lees aging give his wines structure and character. By bottling unfiltered with minimal sulfur, he preserves the authentic expression of the terroir and produces wines that are honest and vibrant.
