Maxi Weimann
Maxi Weimann, born in 1986, works in drawings, paintings, photography, installations, and sound to explore how everyday objects and personal memories are fetishized by us as personal narratives—not sexually, but magically significant. In her collage series “Bodies,” she presents fragmented bodies, ghostlike and anonymized through cuts with scissors. Abstract colors and forms interact with the figures, shifting perspectives of classical visual storytelling and raising questions about the relevance and representation of things that seem important to us.
The proximity, fragmentation, and strangeness of the elements contained within the pictorial space combine to create a call to action: to direct attention to the hidden, which somehow reminds us of something special while simultaneously remaining strangely foreign.
