The Waldportier 2020 from Jakob Tennstedt is a powerful Riesling from the Mosel region, distinguished by its natural production methods and impressive depth. Named after the Waldportier butterfly, which is native to the vineyards, this wine reflects the close connection to nature.
The grapes come from old, ungrafted Riesling vines that thrive on barren slate soils. The must is fermented in traditional 1,000-liter casks made of Hunsrück oak, the wood sourced from the adjacent forests. The wine matures for approximately three years on its lees, without any movement or intervention during fermentation and maturation. Each cask is then individually bottled directly, without filtration or added sulfur.
The Waldportier 2020 impresses with its robust character and exceptional depth. With aromas of ripe stone fruit, subtle spice, and a hint of honey, it unfolds a complex bouquet. On the palate, it displays considerable body and structure, combined with elegant freshness and a pronounced slate minerality. Its strong, vibrant texture and balanced acidity make it an expressive natural wine with a great deal of personality.
