The Kapellenberg 2021 is a single-vineyard wine that, together with the Heiligenblut vineyard, forms the pinnacle of the Heiligenblut winery's portfolio. Both vineyards are linked by a rare geological feature: a melaphyre vein runs from the Heiligen Blutberg to the Kapellenberg, shaping the terroir of these exceptional wines.
The Kapellenberg vineyard benefits from the unique properties of melaphyre, a rare black volcanic rock that imparts deep minerality and impressive density to the wine. The old vines, meticulously tended by hand, root deeply in this special soil and, thanks to low yields, produce highly complex wines with excellent aging potential.
The grapes were carefully hand-harvested and gently processed to preserve the full potential of the vineyard. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine aged for an extended period on the lees, developing additional depth and elegance. The Kapellenberg 2021 was bottled unfiltered, unfined, and with only a minimal addition of sulfur to maintain the wine's purity and authenticity.
This single-vineyard wine deserves to be decanted and enjoyed with time in the glass. Perfect with sophisticated dishes such as grilled fish, veal sirloin, or aromatic vegetarian fare.
Since 1924, the Heiligenblut winery has been home to the Hannemann family. Brothers Christian and Martin Hannemann, now in their fourth generation, manage the estate, which is known for its sustainable, honest, and vibrant wines. With an impressive history dating back to 454 AD, the winery combines tradition with a clear, modern vision. The name "Heiligenblut" (Holy Blood) is a reminder of the Christian monks who, according to legend, were executed at this site by Attila the Hun. In their memory, Saint Boniface had a chapel built and the first vines planted in 746 AD.
