The 2023 Lorcher Kapellenberg from Alexander Schregel is an impressive Riesling that masterfully captures the unique characteristics of the renowned Kapellenberg vineyard in Lorch. These steep south-facing slopes, with their slate soils typical of Lorch and rather rare in the Rheingau, lend the wine its characteristic minerality and elegant structure. These geological features make Lorch an exceptional terroir within the Rheingau.
In the glass, the 2023 Lorcher Kapellenberg displays a clear and precise aromatic profile: fresh herbs, delicate fruit aromas, and pronounced minerality dominate. On the palate, the wine combines power, precision, and elegance, supported by a vibrant acidity and a subtly spicy finish. Currently showing some signs of being somewhat closed, this Riesling offers great aging potential and will gain depth and complexity over the next three to five years.
Alexander Schregel, born in 1996, is one of the most promising young winemakers in the Rheingau region. After studying viticulture in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, he gained valuable experience at wineries such as Weingut Fürst. Alongside his work as operations manager at the renowned Weingut Leitz in Rüdesheim, he passionately dedicates himself to his own wine production.
