The Siebenschläfer 2022 is a multifaceted reinterpretation of the almost forgotten Franconian blend, known in the Middle Ages as "Frentsch". This special wine from the vineyard on the Eselsberg combines the diversity of traditional grape varieties with modern craftsmanship and reflects the deep-rooted connection to Franconian wine culture.
The vineyard was replanted by Michael and Melanie in 2018 after the old Domina vines yielded only meager harvests. Together with Josef Engelhardt, an ampelographer from the LWG (Bavarian State Research Center for Viticulture and Horticulture), they selected historic Franconian and classic grape varieties to revive the Franconian blending tradition. This place is far more than just a vineyard: surrounded by apple, plum, and cherry trees, planted by Michael's grandfather, as well as a small pond, it provides a habitat for numerous animals such as frogs and dragonflies – a true biotope and a place full of magic.
The 2022 Siebenschläfer impresses with a multifaceted aromatic profile that reflects the diversity of the grape varieties. On the palate, it displays elegant freshness, light red fruit, fine tannins, and a precise minerality that culminates in a harmonious balance of acidity and structure. Its vibrant texture makes it a versatile and profound wine to savor.
This wine symbolizes the connection between sustainability, craftsmanship, and regional wine culture. The Siebenschläfer 2022 bridges the gap between past and present – authentic, vibrant, and full of character.
